Simula At Wakas Kickoff Experience (Ticket Selling, Fan Projects, Day 1 & 2)

—An Experience Of A Lifetime—

After months of waiting in anticipation, Simula At Wakas world tour kickoff finally happened. As a first time to attend an even at the Philippine Arena, I didn't know what to expect. I've heard stories about how the travel would be and the not so good feedback people had about Live Nation. I told myself, SB19 deserves better than a good concert process, so I was a bit worried. When the date of the ticket selling  for day 1 was announce, I knew it'd be sold out, that was given. What I didn't expect was for it to sell out in less than seven hours.

I was on my phone waiting for 12pm to get in line to purchase a ticket. At exactly 12, my phone's google browser already had the queuing welcome screen on display. I thought I got in early and was expecting to at least get a good seat. I even had the seat plan pulled up so I can choose which spot I like. Then, I finally saw my queue number and boy, I was at 28,055. I was literally stunned because, how? I got in line on time, and I still didn't get a low queue number? Not even within the hundreds?

My actual queue number from my X account.

My plan was to get a VIP Seated for day 1 and to get UB or LB for day 2, but nope. What plan? There is no plan, whatsoever. Every refresh of my X timeline, my hopes of getting a center seat vanished. Updates of each tiers being sold out filled my timeline. When it was finally my turn to secure my ticket, all I managed to get a was a lower box ticket. I was heartbroken for not getting the tier I desired, but I thought, that's alright. I'd still be a part of the crowd.

Shortly after the day 1 ticket selling, SB19 announced the addition of day 2 during their ASAP guesting. It was a pleasant surprise and a much needed news because there were so many A'tin and casuals who didn't secure a ticket for day 1 due to how fast it sell out. Stell said that day 2 was to give those who didn't get a day 1 ticket a chance to watch them perform live. But because we're A'tin, of course, we had to see them again for day 2. It also became my chance of finally securing a VIP section. I wanted a VIP Seated, but that was the first to be sold out, always. So on April 15, I finally secured a VIP Standing instead.

For months, I've witnessed fanbases come up with ideas on how to make an unforgettable SAW Kickoff experience, not just for themselves, but for everyone. It's one of the many admirable culture that the A'tin community has. Because of SB19's influence, the community wasn't just a fandom, it is a family that cares not just for their idols, but for each other, too. There were buses for easy and even free transportation, ticket giveaways to help other A'tin watch the concert, the flying banner, and the one I am most proud of, the WATA-WHAT fan project.

But what truly made me fall in love with this fandom is how one person can make so much difference, all for the love we have to the five amazing people who constantly inspire us. As expected, day 2 didn't sell out as fast as day 1, which was okay. As the concert days approach, one international-based Pinoy A'tin who wouldn't be able to come home decided to send a thousand people in her stead. She funded the largest ticket giveaway the fandom had ever known. Not only that, she even helped fund 3 buses so other A'tin could have an easy means of transportation. The amount of money she spent for the boys and the fandom is insane, but more than that, it was her love and adoration that makes me so proud to be in the same fan house as her. She never asked for anything in return, only that those who got the tickets she funded to enjoy and maybe take some videos.

Now onto the first day of the concert.

A lot of A'tin said they won't attend the kickoff if it would be held in Philippine Arena because of how inconvenient the travel was. Well, surprise, surprise. They attended anyway. That's how much they wanted to be a part of SB19's biggest comeback. We really are fragile when it comes to SB19. I was fortunate to secure a spot in a vanpool with other A'tin who were kind and accommodating. I even felt embarrassed as I overslept on Sunday and they had to wait for me for almost two hours. I wanted them to go ahead without me, but they insisted on waiting for me. We shared stories and laughter.

As someone who gets anxiety attacks whenever I'm surrounded by a large crowd, I don't go to large gatherings and events. It was only when I met SB19 that I managed to overcome that anxiety starting when I attended PABLO's Earth Hour event alone. That was also when I first experienced how caring and accommodating A'tin is. I prepared myself for what I might feel as soon as we arrived at the venue, but I was still overwhelmed. Only this time, it was excitement and pride. Bashers and trolls continue to mock SB19's success because they are not the most streamed act in the country. So when I saw how long the line to the Fanzone was, I smiled.

Gone are the days that I feel like I can't breathe when I'm surrounded by many people. Right there and then, I walked with my companions towards a sea of people wanting to enter the Fanzone. While waiting in line, I had the chance to observe the people around me. They all waited patiently, many were even smiling as they chat with the people close to them. The mother and son behind me played a guessing game to avoid boredom. We all waited under the heat of the sun, but no one complained about it. We all understood that the Fanzone was meant to avoid chaos. With how large the crowd was, it was better to have one place where fans and concert goers could go to get some freebies if they wanted to. It took us more than two hours to finally get the chance to enter the white tent. When I absentmindedly complained that I want to drink water so badly because of how hot the weather was, the lady in front of me didn't hesitate to give me one of her bottled water for free.

When the general doors opened, I was exhilarated. SB19 is known for their live vocal prowess and high caliber performance, so I know we were in for an amazing night, and I was right. Though, it wasn't just SB19 who made the first night of the kickoff memorable. To pass the time before the concert began, A'tin had a karaoke session. Everyone sang some SB19 songs, and let me tell you. SB19 has some talented fans. We all had a lot of fun even before the concert started, and when it did, the magic began.

The first part of the concert was full of hype. Every one screamed, headbanged, and jumped on their seats as we enjoyed some of SB19's best party and diss tracks. It's hard to explain, but these five have something in them that can make the crowd go wild and all out. They can command the crowd and usher them to enjoy a night of good music like there's no tomorrow. Yet, that is not the end of SB19's stage power. After they made us lose our minds from the hype, they carried us into an ocean of emotions. Personally, I cried all the hidden anger and pain that had been haunting me for the longest time during the day 1 concert. When the night is done, I felt lighter, happier.

Of course, an SB19's concert will never be complete without them showing their love and appreciation to everyone who supported them since the day they started their careers, most especially to A'tin. Their never ending thanks to us makes everything, all the sacrifices, efforts, money and time spent worth it.

Freedom. They fought hard to achieve it, and now, they finally got it. They are free to be whoever they want to be, free from limitations and boundaries, and from a culture that is not ours to begin with. They are no longer SB19, a group handled by some company. They are SB19, the first-ever PPOP group to separate themselves from their management and formed an artist management company of their own. A PPOP group that is not required to follow any trend or maintain a certain persona. They can be themselves without anyone controlling them.

Being a part of this monumental event is something I will cherish until the end of my days. I will gladly tell to whoever would listen that the nights SB19 showed how powerful they were, I was there as part of the crowd that cheered for them. But, do you know what made that night even more beautiful for me? I was seated next to an elderly woman and we got to share stories. From what she told me, she was there accompanied by her son who was supportive of her fangirling, perhaps because her son saw how positive the effect of her fangirling journey was to her. She sang with everyone, partied, and screamed her heart out. You see, bashers and trolls like to use our age against us, saying SB19's fans are old ladies. What they don't realize is that people like us have the means to spend for whatever we like. We don't need to ask money from our parents just so we could attend a concert. We just can, as easy as that.

A'tin demographic is also a testament of how wide SB19's reach is. Their music is not just for teenagers with short attention span who would easily jump to the next trend like how fast they'd change their minds about what to wear. We are a community of youngsters, elders, students, professionals, creatives, and all genders. SB19's effect on people don't end with those who are young or with women who like cute things. The two-night concert was a proof because I personally witnessed how many men arrived wearing merchandises from their respective bias. Even if you're not an avid fan of SB19, their music will affect you in so many positive ways that you would have no other choice but to admire them.

And for those who don't know, an SB19 event is actually a home of emotional happenings for many of their fans. From couples who met because of their fan journey, children who accompanied their parents to a concert, and many more. SB19 are not just idols, they are the home of many hearts and the savior of many souls. They created a space where everyone can find solace and peace, and because of it, we are forever grateful.

SB19 has always included us in their lives, and we feel it in everything they do. During the ballad part of the concert, when they were about to sing MAPA, the whole arena was swept to tears when Josh revealed that his father was in the audience to see him perform live for the first time. The man who had been missing from his life and he painfully missed, was there to finally witness his son's greatness. For the first time, he finally saw the kind of man he brought into this world, and I know he was proud of Josh

This sea of lights made me feel like I was in the universe, watching greatness unfold as bright and sparkling lights surround me, enveloping me with warmth, pride, and joy. I never appreciated Philippine entertainment for so many reason, but talent was never one of them. I know that Filipinos are insanely talented, but truth of the matter is that, we are inherently mediocre in so many ways. It's hard for us to get out of our comfort zone but when somebody did and it paid off, we are easy to jump to the proud Pinoy bandwagon. For the longest time, all I've seen in our country's entertainment industry is the repetitive themes of unconditional love, blind love, contentment of poverty, and the same old revenge stories. Whether that be in TV series, movies, or even in music. It had always been the same old recycled themes, until SB19 came along.

Since the beginning of their career, SB19 has always been praised for their hard work, kindness, gentle nature, and humility. They are generous in giving care and affection to those around them, especially to elderlies and children. Ken was specifically highlighted when he granted a mother's wish during the 2nd day of the kickoff concert. Us, A'tin, know how good hearted Ken is and we feel the happiest that the rest of the world can finally see that goodness in him. All the members of SB19 have always been praised for their good character by fans, colleagues, people who worked on their events, and even casuals. This remind me of when PABLO went viral for letting a fan sit beside him because this fan was holding a cane.

 Speaking of Day 2

This is the best night of my life. I crossed off one of the top items in my bucket list and I had the chance to finally see all the members up-close. A little backstory of my A'tin journey. 2022 when I got out of a very toxic relationship that caused me to develop binge-eating disorder, vertigo, and intensified my insomnia. The emotional pain I felt had already affected me physically, and that's when I finally realized I had to get out. I was fine, happier even, until December 2023 ended. When January 2024 began, I felt numb. I wasn't in pain or sad, I just didn't feel anything and it scared me more. The last time I felt like that, I ran away from my family and did many stupid things. Fortunately, I found out about Felip and due to being naturally curious, I also discovered SB19. That was the beginning of a beautiful journey. Their chaotic humor was what got me first before their talent. The first member I saw up-close was PABLO, so I wanted to see the others in person, too.

If Day 1 was all about performance, Day 2 became more interactive. I think they knew that most of the day 1 attendees were A'tin and they wanted to give us a night to remember. On day 2, they interacted more, threw around some inside jokes, and showed the casuals who attended that they are not just five talented men, they also know how to have fun. I personally enjoyed being in the VIP Standing left side for day 2. I got to meet one long time A'tin and a casual who was sent by another A'tin. I didn't have many fancams because I wanted to savor the night before our MAHALIMA flew out of the country for their world tour.

I finally understood the struggle of the fansites in getting a good group shot because our chaotic five never stays in place for a long time. They'd be right in front of you one second and they'd be gone the next.

Ken being Ken, he just sat there, waving and smiling, and everyone on our side just swoon over him. He looked like a kid watching his older brothers work, wondering what they were doing. He looked so adorable!

We even got free water after the soundcheck, which I don't think is very common in concert events. This was a nice touch, especially that we had to power through intense heat outside.

A'tin really are fun to be with. When the karaoke session began, almost everyone was game. They sang along even when they got tongue twisted because of 8TONBALL.

They started the party early and were all full of energy. It was fun to watch.

As we say in the fandom, manang-mana sa mga amo. They can slay any genre and sang beautifully.

When the concert finally started, all our attentions were on stage. That's the beauty of an SB19 live performance. You have to pay attention, because there are a lot of things you might miss if you're not. Since I was sectioned on the far left side of the arena on day 1, I didn't get the chance to appreciate the stage setup that much, but on day 2, I finally saw how beautifully intentional it was. According to Ms. Ana Puno everything was SB19's idea, and it wasn't surprising because they are creatively intelligent. Every details on stage, the lighting, how the setlist was arranged, and even the videos played in between sets were intentional and they all have meaning. That is how SB19 tells a story. They allow the audience to interpret everything so they can relate it to their personal lives and experiences.

The Simula At Wakas Kickoff 2-day concert was historical in a sense that SB19 proved that you don't have to hide behind stage productions to cover up the lack of talent, or worse, preparation. They may have went all out in terms of adding all their W3 dancers, but they didn't hide behind them. SB19 was front and center at all times. That is how a concert should be done. People paid for a live performance, and a great live performance is what they should get. The audience doesn't deserve mediocrity, and it was a good thing that SB19 was allergic to it.

On stage, basking in the sea of sparkling lights is where SB19 belongs. I believe they were born for the spotlight because they have the heart and the right attitude. They've been in the industry for seven years, and never once have we heard any type of complaints about their character. That is one of the most important things to have if a celebrity wants to last long in the industry. These five incredible men were born stars, and they deserve all the recognitions and adoration.

One of their timeless hits, MAPA had always been a highlight of their concerts since its release because it was the anthem of sons and daughters to their parents. It was a thank you for all the sacrifices and love, and in a country like the Philippines, many can appreciate such a song.

Shooting For The Stars I think is their encouragement to themselves that no matter what happens, they will achieve their dreams together. It may not be instant, but they will get there, and I have no doubt about it. Besides, SB19's dream was not just for them, but for the country.

No one can change my mind that DUNGKA! was a diss track. Even if PABLO didn't admit it himself, I knew in my core that it was, and the huge crab image in the led screen was a playful representation of everyone who had been trying to pull SB19 down. The boys' message for them has always been clear, they would never win.

It's also amazing to see names known in the industry, brands, and companies who don't normally get emotionally involved show vulnerability towards SB19. It only shows the kind of relationships they had built. From Dunkin's strong support since the beginning, to Puregold and Acer's vocal admiration that they even interact with A'tin through social media. You can truly sense the mutual respect and admiration, and it is undeniable.

An SB19 concert is truly a feast for all senses, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to be a part of their biggest concert to date. I am ready for what's to come, no matter the direction our boys want to take. This is not the end for them, this is just the beginning of something greater, much bigger, and even more powerful. They are unstoppable, and when a storm is about to hit, the best you can do is to get the hell out of the way or weather it while hoping to survive. SB19 is the great storm, and there's no stopping them.
